After the year of COVID, seeing celebration after celebration cancelled, we are looking forward to celebrating the birth of our nation once more, as only Quincy can do! There are a number of special events over the long weekend that we at DPS Insurance wanted to share with you.

The High Sierra Music Festival

July 1-4, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

The High Sierra Music Festival features an eclectic mix of some of the most famous national and international names in jamband, newgrass and funk. Other represented genres include bluegrass, roots rock, electronica, reggae, jazz and afrobeat. Away from the music stages, patrons can attend films and movement playshops – yoga, pilates, etc., shop for arts and crafts, or enjoy a wide variety of gourmet food and drink. It’s a family-friendly and community-oriented event with an expanding Family Area full of activities and certified nannies available throughout the weekend.

The Merrymount Fourth of July Parade

July 1-4, 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm

The Merrymount Association Board proudly announced that they will be holding the annual July 4th parade again this year! If anyone has a theme idea, please post or email merrymountquincyboard@gmail.com by June 4, 2021.

This parade is quite informal – you do not need a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float to enter – a car, boat, bikes, strollers, wagons, your own two feet, etc. are all encouraged! Multiple streets can join together to enter a “float.” Please talk to your neighbors about entering and let us know if you know of any other youth groups or organizations that might also want to participate.

The Boston Harborfest

July 1-4

Also known as the Boston 4th of July Festival, Boston Harborfest is the greatest patriotic celebration of this area and highlights the city’s colonial past and revolutionary way to the freedom they have today. The five-day celebration features walking tours covering significant historic sites, reenactments of the revolutionary events, cruising in naval ships, numerous concerts, and other live entertainment. Most events are free and take place either across the waterfront districts or in the downtown area.

Bay Pointe’s 4th of July Fireworks Viewing Party

July 4, 5:30 pm – 12:00 am

In just the third year of this sensational show, we expect it to be bigger and better than ever. The largest fireworks company in New England has been invited to put on the show and it will most definitely be one of the most dramatic pyrotechnic shows anywhere in Massachusetts given the quality of the fireworks and their launch over water!

There are many more events in the area, and however you choose to do so we ask simply that you do so safely. Go for a hike, a swim, or a boat ride. Plan a camping trip or a family get together, or enjoy one of the many celebrations in the area. We urge you to remember that not only are fireworks extremely dangerous, but they are also illegal to have in Massachusetts without proper permitting. Rather than risking fines, injuries, or death, visit a fireworks display with your family and take in the spectacle from a safe distance this year!
